Song of Songs 4:7
Faith has been a foundation in my life for as long as I can remember. As I grow, it is important to me to cultivate a relationship with my creator in the different ways that may look. Lately, I have been building my relationship through words and song. More on the song part later.
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” - Song of Songs 4:7
This verse has been on my heart lately. I would like to share a little of what this verse means to me and hopefully you will hold these words close to your heart as well.
God has created me in His image. I know that yet, I still criticize my being.
“Oh, if only I looked this way.”
“If only I didn't have these scars.”
The hurtful words I say and that we say to ourselves go on and on.
Again, God has created me in His image. Then that means there were no flaws in the way I was created.
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” - Song of Songs 4:7
That verse brings me comfort to the point of tears.
I cry for these reasons:
For the way I have shamed my body even though it does a lot for me.
For the way the people I love look at their bodies.
For the way society has created the “ideal” image.
Media & people have told us lies of what we should look like, wear, and how we should live.
Remind yourself, God has created you and there is no flaw in His work. You are a masterpiece.
When I am disappointed in the way I look…
I remind myself, God has created me and there is no flaw in His work.
Say this with me, “I am a masterpiece.”
I get so caught up in image yet I forget I hold so much depth.
God has created every single part of me.
So yes, we also attack the way our minds work and the way our heart believes.
“Why am I not outgoing.”
“How come I’m so shy.”
“Why do I care about people so much.”
And this is where the first part of the verse comes in…
“You are altogether beautiful.”
That means my whole self is ALSO created by God. He has created me with a heart that is kind, emotions, and a soul that believes in humanity and His goodness.
There is no flaw in that.
I am ALTOGETHER beautiful.
You are ALTOGETHER beautiful.
So when I’m beating myself up over these hurtful thoughts, I will continue to remind myself of this verse.
These “thoughts” may not go away. I definitely believe they may be something we may carry forever. Even if it looks different through out the different seasons of our lives.
But I ALSO believe that the journey will get easier and when we are attacking ourselves, we can recognize that. We then can let ourselves feel it and then take those thoughts and turn them into an action.
Whether thats writing words of impact, creating art, reaching out to friends/family, or letting society know that they are loved. Or reading this bible verse to them:
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” - Song of Songs 4:7
That heals us. That heals me.
So, today I shared some pretty raw thoughts. If there is anything I want you to remember, it is this.
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” - Song of Songs 4:7
God has created you to be altogether beautiful. There is no flaw in the way he made you.
He has created your whole self.
Everyone faces this journey of “heavy thoughts”.
Say this with me, “I am a masterpiece.”
Thank you for being present with me.
