The Gimmies & Being Glamorously Average

“Man, I wish I had their life.”

How often do you catch yourself saying this. Maybe you don’t say it, but show it by complaining about the things in your own daily life.

I’m going to be very honest, I’ve caught myself a lot wishing I had the life of someone else’s. You know what I’m talking about…the extraordinary lives these bloggers, vloggers, & instagram influencers are all living. It is so easy to see all their content they are producing in their very “glamorous” lifestyle and just want a slice of the pie that they are eating.

Don’t get me wrong it’s good to want good things for your life. You should totally work hard for those goals that you have for yourself. It’s definitely okay to want nice things.

I often get stuck in “The Gimmies.” If you’ve seen Berenstain Bears, you know what I’m talking about. I read this book all the time when I was a kid. I’ll some up the lesson of the book. Sister and Brother ended up wanting everything and were disappointed because they couldn’t have certain things. They ended up being unhappy and not content with what in their life was going well.

I’ve definitely had the case of “The Gimmies,” but how do I start to feel better??

Recently, I’ve reminded myself that I am Glamorously Average. Now what does that mean? I’ve started taking the normal things I do everyday that may seem not picture-perfect and made them glamorous! You know just like that Tik Tok where they say you have to start romanticizing your life.

So here is my message to you. Even though you may not have this “ideal” life that the world portrays (all the time) the things you are doing today are helping you grow and reach the goals you have for yourself. This is IMPORTANT. You are Glamorously Average and that is okay because your are living an extraordinary life by being you.

Let me tell you about some of the most glamorously average moments I have:

  1. Sometimes I wear different socks because I can’t ever find a pair.

  2. My shoes do not stay clean.

  3. I sweat when I work-out.

  4. I have a ton of drafts in my Tik Tok because I’m to afraid to post them. (Spoiler: just post them)

  5. I am insecure.

  6. I live with my parents still.

  7. Sometimes I feel that I don’t know what I’m doing with the rest of my life or what is next.

Guess what. These things are completely normal and deserve to be celebrated. These remind me of how human I am. I have insecurities, I have fears, & I feel lost about careers. Now let’s put a fun twist on this!

  1. I am thankful I have socks.

  2. I am thankful I have shoes.

  3. I am thankful my body is taking care of me.

  4. There are people who share the same fears as you and when you share your voice with them, they feel heard.

  5. I have insecurities, but I am so thankful I am me.

  6. I am thankful for a family who love and supports me.

  7. I am thankful for the journey I am on and I’m learning to be present in the moment, so I don’t rush and miss the little things.

This is what it means to be Glamorously Average. Taking the so called “average” things and turning them extraordinary.

Love you,

Rebecca Lauren
