Self-care Ideas
Recently, I have found that I needed more time for myself. I would use all my time to help others while forgetting to help myself. When I forgot about myself, I easily became drained from all the stuff I was doing. The only emotions that were left were anger, moodiness, lack of patience, and the feeling that no one appreciated me.
So how did I get myself back on track. Let’s be honest all those emotions are okay to feel for a little bit, but then those become draining and life feels blah.
Well I was tired of feeling like that. I was tired of the way I was treating myself and others. That’s when I decided I needed a break and some space.
Here are some self care ideas I have found to help me. I hope they can help you as well.
Journal
I have found that when I release my emotions into writing they help calm me and turn what I am feeling into something useful. Whether it be a song, a blog post, or just releasing what I have been feeling and then throwing it away in the trash. Here are some of my favorite prompts:
How did I choose joy for this month, week, or day? How did you choose to celebrate yourself? What are your worries? How can you serve yourself and others using your talents and gifts?
Spa Day
Wow. Have I found it relaxing to shave my legs! Lol! I exfoliate my legs with a really good smelling scrub. (I love the blueberry one from Truly or any coconut scrub), I shave them, and then use my yummy smelling lotion all over my legs. It’s so good for the soul to take care of your body whether through face masks, mani-pedis, shaving your legs, and even fueling your body with the right foods and water.
Dance
I find it so helpful to put on a good playlist and just dance. Who cares if I’m good or if I’m Tik Tok status. Moving your body is a great way to relieve stress, worry, sadness and replace it with joy. I also love to box. I go to Title Boxing two times a week and that helps me get out of funks. Boxing helps me feel strong and then I know I can accomplish anything! It’s a really good mental space.
Connect with Friends/Family
I cannot stress how important it is to connect with your friends and family!! Maybe watch a good movie together, go out to eat, go on a hike, or talk to each other on the phone. Connect with people that make you feel good and where you can feel like you are yourself.
What movies I am currently watching right now?
Read a Book
Okay. I though I wasn’t much of a reader anymore (Hello, Digital Age). I found out that I am though. I mostly go for light reads like romance or historical fiction books. They take you into another world and you find your childlike imagination again.
Some books I’m loving…..The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, & Nancy Drew Books (lol)
Take Time to Rest
Sometimes you just have to do nothing. Sleep, stare off into space, and doing absolutely nothing. Thats when our true emotions come forward and we are able to see what we need right now. When I feel like I need a break after a long and eventful weekend of completely packing myself full. I just have a veg-out day and do nothing. I make peace with myself that it is okay to do nothing today. When guilt comes knocking on my door saying, “Hey! Why aren’t you doing anything today?” Thats when I open the door to self care and do the ideas I mentioned above. It makes me feel better.
So hey, let me tell you that you deserve the space to have time to yourself.
Say it with me, “I deserve time to myself.”
Much love,
Rebecca Lauren
