Create more & consume less by ‘filling your sketchbook’
Consume less & CREATE more 👇
To protect my peace and help me grow in whatever I’m achieving (art, content creation, graphic design), I’ve set the goal to consume less. Mainly limiting my social media intake. It’s great to use for inspo, but soon we find ourselves in the comparison trap. Our thoughts finally spiral into I can’t do ______ unless I have _______.
I’ve found myself there quite a lot recently. Some phrases I caught myself saying are:
“WOW, THATS A GREAT REEL. HOW CAN I CREATE CONTENT JUST LIKE THAT.”
“THEIR HOUSE LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL. HOW CAN I MAKE MY ROOM LOOK LIKE THEIRS.”
“I’LL NEVER CREATE ART, CONTENT, FILL IN YOUR ______, AS GOOD AS THAT.”
Who’s else has been thinking a lot about this! 🙋♀️
So how do I stop tearing my creations apart. You FILL YOUR SKETCHBOOK.
Maybe it’s a physical sketchbook or your mental sketchbook. This is what’s been helping me:
💌 Clear your mind — Social media detox, put your phone away, go on a walk.
💌 Give yourself some love — Remind yourself it’s okay if your process looks different than others, know that you’re still growing, and you have time to practice.
💌 Time — We’re always running out of time. Take a moment to ground yourself and know that you’ve got time. Time to always learn more, time to sit and be still, time to set your creation aside.
💌 Start — Sit down and do anything. Make a messy page in your sketchbook, doodle, write about your day, paint, take photos. OR maybe you’re ready to take on what you’d like to create.
P.S. I saw a trend of videos on ‘consume less and create more’ — I never thought about it much until I sat down to think through how I can protect my peace while scrolling social media.

Paint brushes* I like Winsor & Newton brushes.
